ROOTS

"Better to take pleasure in a rose than to put its root under a microscope." Oscar Wilde

And what if not? What if we just weren't looking closely and underestimated this hidden and most important element of the plant? After all, aren't the roots more valuable than the flower itself?

We usually place cut flowers in vases and either leave their roots in the ground or we forget about them altogether. However, they nourished the plant during all of its lifetime. Fragments of the most resistant roots, i.e. weeds, are then displayed in this collection in cobalt to ultramarine colour, which has been a symbol of special value since ancient times.

I cast twelve roots that I obtained from the soil during the weeding phase of their respective plants. I glue these cast roots to the vases by hand and model them in various ways, ensuring that every vase is unique.

Even though the vessels' shapes originate from three plaster moulds, I allow the top rim to be partly dictated by chance and complete it by hand.
