Vase for a twig – one flower – ikebana
"It is better to rejoice in the flower of a rose than to put its root under a microscope." Oscar Wilde
And what if we didn't? What if we just didn't look closely and underestimated this hidden and most important element of the plant? We usually tend to admire the flower buds, but in this Roots collection I decided to celebrate and explore flowers from a different perspective. I believe that the most important thing is hidden in the hidden part of the plant, behind the curtain – in the soil. Then there is the symbolism that roots carry with them – strength and new life.
During the creation of the Roots collection, I shaped 12 roots, obtained from the soil while weeding. I glue the castings of these roots onto the vases by hand and vary them in many different ways. Each vase is so unique that no two are ever the same. The bodies of the vases are shaped with three molds, but even these are never the same, because I leave their top rim to chance and finish them by hand.
As each vase is unique, please contact me before ordering . I will send you photos of the vases that are available. This collection was part of the London Design Fair in September and you can come and see them in our studio by appointment. I look forward to it! – Helena
